BEAUTY

I’ve seen all and yet I’ve seen nothing,
Experienced all and yet experienced nothing.
This journey that seems without end.
We are but puppets in the very lives we commandeer
We are but streams coursing through the rocks.
Our positions are engineered at every turn we take.
Blame us for where we end up.
As long as you reserve your disdain for the rocks.
See us transparent and sparkly as we avoid those rocks in every turn.
Do not blame us when we get to the sea and our depths become unfathomable.
You are naive for wanting us to stay as we are forever,
Transparent through and through.
And yet even the sea has its beauty
Having  seen it at sunset, am I convinced.
There is beauty in transparency albeit shallow.
But beauty found within depths,
Through every plunge and every dive
Beauty indeed! I say.

HUMANITY

We are our own competition.
Our history is never gone, always before us.
Our present constantly faced with shaming the achievements of our past.
Our futures with the hopeful resignation of ‘we can do better’.
Our history, our now, our hope.
We are what the ape can never aspire to, no matter how evolved.
We are humanity.

We are cautious and daring
We are foolish and wise
We are a people worthy of envy
 A  masterpiece of creation
We survive.
We thrive.
Hope, our emblem,
Our brightest gift.
We are humanity!

CONSCIENCE

My little man, lodged deep inside me
With just the possibility of his rebuke,
My feet are kept on the straight and narrow.
The sighs of relief he expels are like music to my soul.
My conscience and I bonded for life.
Him I never wanted but always needed.
Him I will prob’ly abandon with the slightest provocation.
A choice I never want to be given.
My conscience is a necessary evil.
My conscience and I, may we never part.
The world is a little bit safer with him in play.
My conscience is the isle of my soul.

PLIGHT OF THE MARKED

They shoved their monies down our throats and called it generosity
Halfway down the road we lost our humanity
Losing our identity as a people was just a matter of time
Like flashlights remembered only in points in time,
We are remembered as the scourge of society
Yet little is done to purge the scourge
Daily as our numbers grow
We silently scream for help
To be remembered
To be saved

Each of us with our common and unique story
Most of the time we don’t really exist
How we’ve survived all this while is no mystery
We are not supposed to care,
That is how we survive
But why should you care?
No one fought for who we were
Why should anyone fight for who we are?
Who we can be
Who we long to be

BUTTERFLIES IN MY STOMACH

Oft thought of as lame
Far be it from me to name names
The strongest feeling of love invoked
Was it a mistake that I outspoke
Caring was not such a good idea after all
Have seen what happens on people’s walls
But braving the misconceptions of peers
Overlooking the constant stream of fears
Let’s acknowledge our might
For everything will be all right
It has to be
We live to see
