IMPERTINENT HARMATTAN
by Audrey H. Kumordjie
What have you not touched?
Smooth shins or soft heels
Oiled bodies or soft lips
The brown lawns or our burning crops
Or is it the unbearable heat in our huts
What have you not touched?
When we scraped the caked muck off our shoes
We wished for you
When we jumped over puddles
We longed for your hazy breeze
You came, being sought after
You were overjoyed and so your embraces were profuse
And your kisses were passionate
We are sorry to tell you
We cannot take anymore of your ardent lovemaking
For all we do seek after now
Are the inconveniences of the rains
The intolerable tears of the rainy season.
Smooth shins or soft heels
Oiled bodies or soft lips
The brown lawns or our burning crops
Or is it the unbearable heat in our huts
What have you not touched?
When we scraped the caked muck off our shoes
We wished for you

The intolerable tears of the rainy season.
